As many as 150 people joined in waste management socialization at RW level held at East Jakarta Mayor Office, Wednesday (2/19).

Thus we encourage them to take a part in managing waste at RW level

East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar stated, his side continued to find innovative ways to manage waste, including to manage it from RW level. He expects this method can reduce number of waste transported to Bantar Gebang TPST.

"It couldn't be optimal without support from RW administrators and residents in managing the waste. Thus we encourage them to take a part in managing waste at RW level," he explained.

According to him, this socialization was given at RW level because he wanted to change old paradigm about waste management which is still carried out by most people until now, that is 'gathering-transporting-disposing'. He assessed, it didn't solve anything, just moved the problem to Bantar Gebang TPST.

East Jakarta LH Sub-department Head, Herwansyah conveyed, this socialization was attended by urban village and sub-district heads, district council (dewan kota), and representatives of RT/RW, and PKK cadres.

Through this socialization, his side aimed to reduce volume of waste transported to Bantar Gebang TPST and improve waste management effectivity through self-reliance and community participation.

"We will continue to manage the waste in order to reduce number of waste disposed to Bantar Gebang TPST. Because it all starts from the community," he said.
